When San Diego split the 619 area code into three area codes, I lost a lot of business because my phone number was on everyone's refrigerator with the wrong area code! There was only one way to prevent future changes from disrupting my business, and that was utilizing a toll-free number. I learned how to acquire them and pursued specific numbers that spelled my name, my business interests, and some speculative ones as well.

Any business that uses the phone for sales already has a good phone number or is in great need of one. I am fascinated at the number of advertisements that end with repeating a 10-digit phone number 4, 5 or 6 times! That's a 94% loss of the people who wanted to respond!
